Hundreds of Voters to Walk to a Phoenix Early Voting Site on Oct. 24 for the Arizona Peoples Convention

On Oct. 24, hundreds of Arizona voters will walk together from the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown hotel to a nearby early voting site, taking turns casting early ballots to open the day-long Arizona Peoples Convention in Phoenix. Organizers say more than 1,100 people have registered for the convention, which is organized by grassroots progressive groups including Living United for Change in Arizona (LUCHA), Activate 48, Chispa Arizona and Our Voice Our Vote Arizona. Rather than a traditional campaign rally, the convention will feature community-led discussions and workshops where working families, community leaders and grassroots organizers identify priorities such as rising housing, utility and health care costs and draft a policy agenda for elected officials after the election; live music is also planned. Spokesperson Cesar Fierros said it will be one of the largest get-out-the-vote early voting events in Arizona history, aimed at making working families' voices heard as Election Day approaches. Arizona's midterm voting takes place Nov. 3, with early voting under way.
