Ohio Has Issued 1.24 Million Early Ballots: Nearly 922,800 Returned as of Oct. 23

According to an Oct. 24 report, the Ohio Secretary of State's election dashboard shows that as of Oct. 23 the state had issued 1,240,470 early ballots. Of those, 712,710 were mailed absentee ballots, of which 395,033 had been returned, a return rate of about 55 percent; another 527,760 voters had already voted at in-person early voting sites. In total, 922,793 ballots had been returned, about 74 percent of those issued and equivalent to 11.2 percent of the state's roughly 8.2 million registered voters as of the 2024 election. Ohio's early voting period began Oct. 6, with in-person voting running through Nov. 1; hours on Saturday, Oct. 24, are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekday hours expand starting Oct. 26, Oct. 31 hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Nov. 1 hours are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and most mailed ballots must be returned by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3. Competitive races for Ohio governor and the U.S. Senate in this midterm are among the reasons early voting has been brisk.
