South Carolina Women Rout Benedict 113-34 in Exhibition: Watkins and Kitts Return From Injury

On the night of Oct. 23, the top-ranked University of South Carolina women's basketball team beat Benedict College 113-34 in an exhibition at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia. Freshman Jerzy Robinson debuted with a double-double of 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists; Tessa Johnson also scored 17 points, with five steals and three assists. The most watched story was the return of two players from injury: Ashlyn Watkins, playing for the first time since tearing an ACL in January 2025, had eight points and 10 rebounds in 16 minutes; Chloe Kitts, back from an ACL tear in October 2025, scored eight points in 12 minutes. Head coach Dawn Staley said afterward that both players looked rusty after so long away, but that the rust will wear off the more they play and that getting them into a game was a good thing. Teammate Johnson said playing a final season with two players she thought had already left felt a little surreal and that everyone was excited. South Carolina previously beat the College of Charleston 91-60 in a Sept. 27 exhibition; the regular season opens Nov. 2 against Maryland in Paris, France.
