On October 24, Delaware held its first Missing and Unidentified Persons Day at the Route 9 Library in New Castle, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., free and open to the public. The event was hosted by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science, with the New Castle County Police Department, the Wilmington Police Department and the Delaware State Police taking part, and was aimed at every family and friend affected by a loved one's disappearance.

At the event, families could meet face-to-face with staff from the agencies that search for missing persons and work to identify unknown remains, learn about available resources, and talk with advocates and other families with similar experiences. Organizers encouraged advance registration but did not require a prior missing-person report; families who had never filed a report were equally welcome.

Event lead Kara Tarlack, the chief forensic investigator, said she hoped the face-to-face meetings would let families know they are not alone and let agencies hear families' needs directly. It is the first time Delaware has held such an event statewide, and organizers hope it becomes an important platform for helping families of the missing.
