Montana Marks 'Make a Difference Day' on Oct. 24, Capping America 250 With Statewide Volunteering

October 24 was "Make a Difference Day" in Montana, when residents statewide were invited to step out and volunteer at local food banks, churches and other community service organizations, capping the state's America 250 celebrations. The day is the concluding piece of Montana's "Two Lights" initiative, launched by Gov. Greg Gianforte on May 4, 2026, together with the Montana 250 Commission and ServeMontana, inspired by the two lanterns hung in the Old North Church before Paul Revere's midnight ride in 1775.
The initiative rests on three pillars — learn, engage and serve — encouraging residents to read the founding documents, visit landmarks such as the Montana Heritage Center, attend local government meetings and, in the service pillar, volunteer in their communities.
At the launch, the governor said celebrating America's 250th anniversary is both a moment to look back at founding principles and a moment to put them into action. The October 24 volunteer activities across the state formed the climax of the year-long civic engagement campaign.
