Concord Public Library Lends Out 'Ghost-Hunting' Kits for Halloween

Saturday, October 24, 2026 · States · GSM News

On October 24, the public library in Concord, the capital of New Hampshire, rolled out a timely Halloween service: residents can check out a "ghost detector" or a thermal-imaging camera just like a book, to "investigate" whether their homes have any supernatural activity during the holiday. The devices are part of the library's "Library of Things" collection, whose purpose is to help residents save money by trying equipment before deciding whether to buy, avoiding impulse purchases used once and shelved for years.

Beyond the ghost-hunting gear, the Library of Things offers karaoke machines, metal detectors, telescopes, pickleball sets, paper shredders, car diagnostic-code readers and equipment to convert old videotapes to digital files, spanning daily life, entertainment and repair.

The library said Halloween is just a fun entry point; behind it is a more practical consumption idea — some things you only need to have temporarily. Whether borrowers that night actually encounter anything "supernatural" is, of course, another matter.
