Oregon Secretary of State Test Site Briefly Showed Nov. 3 Test Data; Officials Say Not Real Votes

Saturday, October 24, 2026 · States · GSM News

On October 24, a Yamhill County outlet in Oregon reported that a test website controlled by the Oregon Secretary of State's office was briefly publicly accessible on the internet, showing figures labeled as unofficial results for the November 3 general election, including vote counts by county and contest. As of 1 p.m. Pacific Time on October 24, the page showed 64,453 ballots counted statewide — 2.24% of 2,875,910 registered voters — with Yamhill County showing 162 votes and other counties similarly small numbers.

The report made clear these figures were not ballots cast by voters, nor ballots received or counted by counties, but test data generated during logic-and-accuracy testing. Oregon law requires counties to run logic-and-accuracy tests on their counting systems before an election, with public certification testing held within seven days of the election. The Yamhill County clerk issued notice on October 8 that public certification testing would take place at 9 a.m. on October 15, and Deschutes County ran a similar test on October 20.

The episode is a reminder to voters that any purported early results seen around Election Day should first be checked for whether they are test data.
