Wyoming Awards $203.6 Million in Rural Health Transformation Funds Across 23 Counties

On October 23, 2026, Wyoming formally awarded $203.6 million in rural health transformation funds at a ceremony in Cheyenne. Gov. Mark Gordon attended and spoke, and state Health Department Director Stefan Johannson called the award a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." The money will be distributed across all 23 counties to strengthen medical services in rural areas.
Fremont County received more than $12.08 million, the largest county share; Lincoln County more than $10.54 million, Johnson County more than $9.89 million, Sheridan County more than $9.01 million and Carbon County more than $7.6 million.
Wyoming is vast and sparsely populated, and rural residents have long faced greater difficulty accessing medical care than city residents; the arrival of this transformation funding is seen as an important step in easing rural health-resource shortages. The state said the funds will support county medical facilities and service capacity, helping rural communities retain medical staff and improve access to emergency and primary care. On October 24, Wyoming rural media published the award details, with every county's amount confirmed — marking the program's move from paper to implementation.
