Denver Transit Runs Fare-Free Systemwide on National Vote Early Day, October 24, to Help Voters Reach Voting Centers and Ballot Drop Boxes

Saturday, October 24, 2026 · States · GSM News

On October 24, the Regional Transportation District (RTD) in Denver waived fares across its entire system for National Vote Early Day, making it easier for voters to reach voting centers and ballot drop boxes. The fare-free service covered all RTD bus and light rail lines, as well as paratransit and FlexRide services; fares will also be waived on Election Day, November 3.

RTD said voters can plan their trips through its "Plan Your Trip to Vote" page (app.rtd-denver.com/vote) or the "Find a Voting Location Near You" feature on its homepage, which lets users filter voting center and drop box locations by "drop box," "vote early" and "open now," with location information provided by the Colorado Secretary of State's office. RTD General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Debra Johnson said that offering free transportation on Election Day and Vote Early Day makes it easier for voters to get to the polls and is important support for fulfilling their civic duty.

RTD also reminded riders that because National Vote Early Day fell on a Saturday, some voting centers may be closed, so voters should check their voting center's hours before traveling; even if a voting center is closed, the free rides can still be used to reach a ballot drop box. The arrangement was announced on October 22. National Vote Early Day is a nonpartisan initiative aimed at raising public awareness of early voting options.
