Saturday, October 24, 2026 · States · GSM News

At 4 p.m. on October 24, the Baltimore Great Lantern Parade and Día de los Muertos celebration opened at Patterson Park. The event was free, and Towson University’s Asian Arts & Culture Center helped present the Asian community parade portion, with a rain date of October 25.

The parade featured three cultural groups from Cambodia, India and Japan, showcasing their traditional dress, music and dance. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Asian Arts & Culture Center hosted a tent on site, inviting the public to make Japanese Obon lanterns together.

The event also included a children’s costume contest, pop-up performances and an arts and crafts market, with the parade itself beginning at 7 p.m. The celebration was produced jointly by Creative Alliance and Friends of Patterson Park, with the Asian Arts & Culture Center as one of the partners. Organizers said the lantern parade was both a fall community gathering and a stage where cultures of different communities meet along the same parade route, and that Baltimore’s Asian community uses it each year to share its cultural traditions with the whole city, while the market and family activities also drew many families.
