Chopin Meets 'Green Island Serenade': Taiwan Folk Concert Performed in New Brunswick on the Evening of Oct. 23

From 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 23, a Taiwan folk concert titled “Chopin Meets 'Green Island Serenade'” was performed at the Nicholas Music Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey, presented by Artisan Music Academy as an evening of chamber music. The concert placed works by Chopin alongside the Taiwan folk song “Green Island Serenade” in the same program, using a cross-cultural lineup to present the melodies and emotions of Taiwanese music and allowing Chinese audiences in New Jersey to hear familiar hometown sounds close to home. According to a weekend getaway guide dated Oct. 21, the concert was already sold out at that time, reflecting demand for such performances in the local Chinese community. New Brunswick is home to Rutgers University and is one of the areas with a larger Chinese population in New Jersey, and the Nicholas Music Center hosts chamber music performances throughout the year. Together with a Japanese food festival in New York's East Village and a Halloween outdoor concert at Hamilton Park in Jersey City, both on Oct. 24, the concert formed part of this weekend's Asian cultural events across the New York–New Jersey area.
