Charleston Southern Defeats Tennessee State 20-7 on October 24

On October 24, Charleston Southern defeated Tennessee State 20-7 in an Ohio Valley Conference game at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, before a crowd of 1,401. The Buccaneers were in control for most of the game, and when kicker Matt Rowland made his second field goal, a 26-yarder with 9:35 remaining, the team already led 20-0. Tennessee State starting quarterback Daylin Lee was intercepted twice in the first half and was benched after a third turnover, a fumble late in the third quarter; backup quarterback Byron McNair came in and led a 12-play, 71-yard drive that took 6:03, capping it with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Cam Bullock to cut the score to 20-7. Tennessee State then recovered a fumble at the opponent's 15-yard line and briefly glimpsed a comeback, but the offense stalled and kicker Preston Hurless missed a 37-yard field goal wide right with 7:04 remaining. For the game, Lee completed 9 of 18 passes for just 64 yards and was sacked twice; McNair completed 7 of 12 passes for 65 yards and was sacked four times. After the game, Charleston Southern stood at 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference, while Tennessee State fell to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
