Talarico Fires at Musk at Austin Rally on the Evening of October 23: Says He Wants to Buy a Senate Seat

On the evening of October 23, Texas Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico held a campaign rally at his alma mater, the University of Texas at Austin, and aimed his fire at billionaire Elon Musk, in coverage published on October 24. According to The Daily Texan, Talarico told the rally that Musk was trying to buy the Senate seat and sounded the slogan that Texas is not for sale: "He wants to buy Texas, but on November 3 we are going to send a clear message to the world's first trillionaire: Texas is not for sale." Talarico is a Texas state representative, and his opponent is State Attorney General Ken Paxton. At the rally he also proposed banning corporate and super PAC donations, banning stock trading by members of Congress, banning gerrymandered redistricting, and imposing term limits. According to Federal Election Commission data, Talarico's campaign raised more than $146 million in 2025-2026, while Paxton raised more than $22 million over the same period; and according to The Texas Tribune, Musk has donated more than $190 million to the Republican-aligned Senate Leadership Fund. Several Austin-area Democratic figures also attended the rally in support.
