Mountlake Terrace Library Holds Diwali Craft Workshop on Oct. 24 Afternoon to Welcome Indian Festival of Lights

On Saturday, Oct. 24, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the Mountlake Terrace Library held a Diwali-themed craft workshop at the library at 23300 58th Avenue West in Mountlake Terrace. According to the official event calendar of the Sno-Isle Libraries system, the workshop was part of the library system's community activities on Oct. 24, and on the same day, from 11 a.m. to noon, the Brier Library also held a creative community activity.
Diwali is one of the most important traditional festivals for Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and other communities, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, and families usually light lamps, decorate doors and windows, and exchange gifts during the festival. The workshop, themed on Diwali, was open to community residents, with advance registration required (spots for the day were full), and participants could make and decorate a wooden tealight holder in the style of an Indian palace window frame (Jharokha) at the library and learn about the cultural background of Diwali.
Mountlake Terrace is located in Snohomish County, near the Seattle metropolitan area, and the library's community activities have long been open to families of different ethnic backgrounds. For local Asian families and neighborhood residents, the afternoon workshop was an opportunity to learn about Indian culture and experience festival crafts firsthand over the weekend.
