New Alien Movie in Development: Prisoners Writer Aaron Guzikowski to Script, Ridley Scott Producing

Saturday, October 24, 2026 · Film · GSM News

A new Alien feature is in development at 20th Century Studios, The Hollywood Reporter reported exclusively on October 23. Screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski has been tapped to write the script, with franchise creator Ridley Scott producing alongside Michael Pruss through Scott Free, and J.R. Young overseeing the project for the studio. Deadline later confirmed the assignment. The film is in early development, no director is attached, and plot details are being kept under wraps.

According to the report, the new film is not a sequel to 2024's Alien: Romulus. Instead, it connects to the two prequels Scott directed himself, Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017). The connective figure between those films is David, the android played by Michael Fassbender; reports suggest the character could provide the thread into the new story, but Fassbender's return has not been confirmed.

Guzikowski is best known for writing Prisoners, the 2013 crime thriller directed by Denis Villeneuve. He previously worked with Scott as creator of the HBO Max science-fiction series Raised by Wolves, on which Scott served as executive producer and directed the first two episodes.

The franchise's most recent theatrical entry, Alien: Romulus, was released in 2024 and grossed more than $350 million worldwide. The reports did not clarify how the new project relates to a Romulus sequel. Filming and directing plans have yet to be announced by the studio.
