IRS Posts "Get Right With Your Taxes" Education Video for People Re-Entering Society

Saturday, October 24, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on October 23 posted an educational video, "Get Right With Your Taxes," to IRSvideos, its official YouTube channel. The video is aimed at people served through the IRS Prisoner Re-Entry Program and covers the basic tax information they need as they return to society. It runs about 6 minutes 41 seconds.

According to the IRS, the video covers seven topics: understanding taxes; refunds, tax credits and proof of income; getting help with taxes; key tax credits; understanding tax forms; avoiding tax scams; and what to do if back taxes are owed. It is distributed alongside the IRS's other re-entry education materials, including a facilitator's guide (Publication 4924) and the Life Cycle brochure (Publication 4925).

On its prisoner re-entry program page, the IRS notes that a filed tax return can serve as proof of income, for example when renting a home, and that taxpayers whose income is too low to owe tax may still qualify for a refund or tax credits, with refund claims generally required within three years. The forms and publications can be obtained on the IRS website or ordered by calling 800-TAX-FORM (800-829-3676).
