USDA and NASA Sign MOU to Modernize Agricultural Data With Earth Observation and SI

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on October 24 that Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins and NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman have signed a memorandum of understanding between USDA and NASA, effective immediately. The MOU aims to strengthen USDA's data quality using Earth observation, geospatial analytics and statistical methodologies, in support of agricultural statistics and acreage and yield estimation.
Cooperation areas include mission and data alignment; data access and infrastructure, including NASA archives, cloud-native geospatial formats and APIs; methodology and validation covering crop condition, yield models and disaster impact; and applications of super intelligence and machine learning.
According to USDA, partnership discussions began in December 2025, after President Trump issued Executive Order 14369, "Ensuring American Space Superiority." The effort supports the USDA Data Modernization Plan that Rollins launched last month. The full MOU and the Data Modernization Plan are published on USDA's website.
