Capitals Edge Sabres 4–3 in Overtime as Tuch Scores Twice Against His Former Team, Including the Winner

Washington — The Washington Capitals defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4–3 in overtime on Saturday, October 24, at Capital One Arena. Alex Tuch scored the game-winner 3 minutes 42 seconds into overtime, his second goal of the game. Tuch had played for Buffalo until he was traded to Washington this summer, and this was his first game against his former team. The Sabres led 2–1 after the first period on goals by Jack Quinn and Josh Doan; the Capitals' Dylan Strome scored twice in the second period to put Washington ahead, and Buffalo's Noah Ostlund tied the game early in the third to force overtime. Tuch's first goal came in the opening period when a pass attempt deflected into the net to give the Capitals the lead; he struck again in overtime to seal the win. Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 31 saves, including a standout sequence in the third period when he stopped a close-range rebound attempt by Strome, but it was not enough to prevent the loss. The defeat opened a four-game road trip for the Sabres.
