Lions Edge Packers 20-17 as Bates Hits a 22-Yard Field Goal as Time Expires

The Detroit Lions beat the Green Bay Packers 20-17 at Ford Field on the evening of October 25, as kicker Jake Bates hit a 22-yard field goal as time expired. It was the Lions' first game back after their bye week; the win moved them to 4-2 and kept them in the race for first place in the NFC North.
Quarterback Jared Goff completed 22 of 33 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns, both to Jameson Williams. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown caught 9 passes for 153 yards, and running back Jahmyr Gibbs carried 29 times for 116 yards. Safety Brian Branch came up with a key interception early in the fourth quarter.
In the closing stages, head coach Dan Campbell gambled on a fourth-down attempt from his own 24-yard line and failed, but Green Bay's ensuing drive stalled, Detroit blocked a 35-yard Packers field goal try, and Bates settled it with his kick. The Lions next host the 6-0 division-leading Minnesota Vikings on November 1.
