Dolphins Edge Jets 28-25 for First Win of Season as Rookie Douglas Catches Two Touchdowns

On October 25, the Miami Dolphins beat the New York Jets 28-25 on the road for their first win of the season, improving to 1-5; it was also head coach Jeff Hafley's first victory with the Dolphins. Miami dressed as many as 15 rookies for the game, and rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas was the biggest standout: returning from three games missed with an ankle injury, he caught two touchdown passes in his first game back. The first, in the back corner of the end zone in the opening quarter, put Miami ahead 7-0 and was the first touchdown of his career; the second was a 63-yard strike in the second half that stretched the lead to 28-17.
Running back Ollie Gordon again rushed for over 100 yards, with several key fourth-down conversions steadying the game. In the final moments, quarterback Malik Willis converted a fourth-and-1 near midfield with a "tush push" to lock up the win. The Jets fell to 2-5. Miami had been one of only two winless teams in the league, and although the victory was hard-earned, it gave the locker room a long-missing dose of confidence.
