Philadelphia's Walnut Street Open Streets Wraps Up Fall Season With Farmers Market and Halloween Family Fun

Sunday, October 25, 2026 · City · GSM News

On October 25, Walnut Street in Philadelphia's Center City welcomed the closing day of its fall "Open Streets" series. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Walnut Street from Broad Street to 19th Street, and 18th Street from Chestnut Street to Locust Street, were closed to vehicles and turned into a pedestrian zone, free and open to the public, with food and shopping at regular prices. The event was organized by the Center City District, sponsored by Fulton Bank, and supported by the city government and the Rittenhouse neighborhood, and was held rain or shine.

The closing day's program was packed: a farmers market ran all day; pumpkin painting began at noon, first come, first served and while supplies last; monster crafts ran from noon to 2 p.m.; a Philadelphia women's jump rope team gave double-dutch lessons from 2 to 3 p.m.; and the Philadelphia Freedom marching band closed the show from 3 to 4 p.m. The Whoa Phat Brass Band also performed live from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., with mini golf and strolling bubble artists throughout. Shops along the street offered a "trick-or-treat trail," with participating times varying by store.

Organizers reminded families that some cross streets remained open to traffic and to heed traffic directions. It was the last "Open Streets: Walnut Street" of this fall; those who missed it will have to wait until next season.
