21-Year-Old Driver Arrested for Extreme DUI After Crashing Into Phoenix-Area Home, Injuring Resident

In the early hours of October 25, an extreme-DUI crash into a home in the Phoenix area left a 21-year-old driver under arrest and a resident injured and taken to the hospital. Gilbert police said that shortly after 1:30 a.m., officers spotted a pickup truck driving recklessly near Gilbert Road and Page Avenue in the city center; a short time later, the same truck did a burnout near Gilbert Road and Guadalupe Road. When police tried to stop it, the driver fled east at high speed and, turning near Guadalupe Road and Rural Road, crashed into a house.
The driver was identified as 21-year-old Gannon Dodge, who was detained along with two other people in the vehicle; Dodge was then arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, endangerment, reckless driving, DUI and extreme DUI. A 45-year-old resident of the home suffered minor injuries in the impact and was taken to a hospital for treatment, and the house sustained structural damage. Police said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash; whether the driver and passengers were injured is not yet clear. In Arizona, an extreme DUI means a blood-alcohol concentration far above the legal limit, an aggravating circumstance carrying heavier penalties.
