The 18th Boston Asian American Film Festival Closes on October 25: Independent Films Tell Asian American Stories

Sunday, October 25, 2026 · City · GSM News

October 25 marked the final day of the 18th Boston Asian American Film Festival, which ran from October 15 at the Emerson Paramount Center in downtown Boston. The festival, a co-production of the Asian American Resource Workshop and ArtsEmerson, showcases independent films that are both thought-provoking and entertaining. Its opening film was Isle Child, by Korean American writer-director Thomas Percy Kim, about a young Korean adoptee who discovers a hidden letter revealing that his birth mother is terminally ill in Korea, and must choose between his settled American life and facing his past. Kim grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, and his work has been selected for several fellowships supporting young filmmakers. The festival also held preview events and audience discussions. For Chinese moviegoers in Boston, it was a chance to see independent films telling Asian stories close to home, and to meet the community and filmmakers behind them.
