NC State Fires Football General Manager Andy Vaughn in a Leadership Shake-Up After Head Coach Doeren's Exit

On October 25, NC State announced the dismissal of football general manager Andy Vaughn, only hours after head coach Dave Doeren was fired. Vaughn had been appointed by Doeren in February 2023 to oversee recruiting and personnel operations. The decision reportedly came after the Wolfpack's 31-28 loss to Stanford on October 24; the team stands at 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, with bowl eligibility an uphill fight. Doeren coached NC State for 14 seasons, going 98-74 to set the program's wins record, earning 11 bowl invitations but never reaching a conference championship game or a 10-win season. Running backs coach and special teams coordinator Todd Goebbel will serve as interim head coach for the rest of the season, and the school has launched a national search for a new head coach. Five regular-season games remain, against California, Duke, Syracuse, Florida State and North Carolina. Vaughn previously worked in player personnel at Nevada and Middle Tennessee State, and his departure marks the end of an era for the Wolfpack.
