Minneapolis Minimum Wage Rises to $17.02 on January 1, 2027: $26 More a Week at 40 Hours

Sunday, October 25, 2026 · City · GSM News

On October 25, the City of Minneapolis announced that the city minimum wage will rise from $16.37 to $17.02 an hour on January 1, 2027, an increase of 65 cents, or about 3.97 percent. For a full-time minimum-wage employee working 40 hours a week, that equals $26 more in weekly gross pay, before taxes and deductions; actual earnings depend on hours worked and employment circumstances. City guidance stresses that coverage follows where the work is performed: an employee who works at least two hours a week within city limits is covered even if the employer is headquartered elsewhere, and part-time, temporary and seasonal work can also fall within the ordinance, while an out-of-city employer address is not by itself an exemption. Minneapolis now applies one rate across employer sizes, adjusted every January 1 for inflation subject to a cap. Tips do not count toward the minimum wage, and employers may not credit tips against wages owed; required uniforms, certain equipment and other employment expenses may not be deducted in a way that pushes pay below the minimum. The city said publishing the new rate early gives workers and employers time to plan next year's payrolls and household budgets.
