Pittsburgh Penguins Rally Past the Nashville Predators 3-2 in Overtime: Koivunen Scores the Winner

On the night of October 24, the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 in overtime at home, with Ville Koivunen scoring the winner with 1:16 left in the extra period. Nashville opened the scoring at 9:24 of the first period when Matthew Wood's shot deflected in off Steven Stamkos; Pittsburgh's Connor Dewar tied it just 18 seconds into the second period, capitalizing on a failed clearance, before Jayden Struble restored Nashville's lead at 6:40 of the second. The Penguins kept creating chances, but Predators goaltender Juuse Saros made a season-high 34 saves, including two stops on Rickard Rakell breakaways. With 1:06 left in regulation and the goaltender pulled for an extra attacker, Sidney Crosby controlled the puck in the left circle and fed Rakell on the other side, who buried the tying goal to force overtime. In the extra period, Koivunen took the puck high and beat Saros with a wrist shot, giving Pittsburgh its second straight win and its first back-to-back victories since a 2-0 start to the season. Penguins goaltender Arturs Silovs made 24 saves; Pittsburgh played without Evgeni Malkin, out with an illness, and improved to 5-6.
