Salt Lake City International Airport Wraps Up Its 12-Year, $5.1 Billion Rebuild as the New Terminal and Concourse B Are Completed

On the evening of October 24, Salt Lake City International Airport celebrated the formal end of its 12-year, $5.1 billion redevelopment, with the final Concourse B gates and concessions coming into use. Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall attended the celebration and praised the project, funded by federal grants and user fees. The New SLC redevelopment broke ground in July 2014, replacing three aging terminals with a modern central terminal and two linear concourses; Phase 1 opened in September 2020, Phase 2 in October 2023 and Phase 3 in October 2024. Four more gates opened in July 2026, and the remaining seven gates and six concessions open on October 27, bringing the airport to 101 dining and retail concessions and 94 aircraft gates. The completion comes as Salt Lake City's air traffic keeps growing, and the new terminal's roomier gate areas and local dining options form many travelers' first impression of the city. The airport said that once all facilities are in service, it will greet the winter ski season and next year's spring and summer travel peaks with an entirely new face.
