New Orleans Pelicans Lose 141-135 in Overtime to the Denver Nuggets: A 23-Point Lead Slips Away as Jokić Records Another Triple-Double

On the night of October 24, the New Orleans Pelicans lost 141-135 in overtime on the road to the Denver Nuggets, surrendering a 23-point lead. New Orleans led 53-30 midway through the second quarter, by 16 at halftime and by 19 entering the fourth; but Denver, led by Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokić, stormed back. Still down eight with 1:37 left, the Nuggets hit consecutive threes by Jokić and Murray, Aaron Gordon's dunk cut it to two, and Murray, fouled on a three-point attempt with 16 seconds left, made two of three free throws to force overtime. In the extra period, Jokić's two free throws gave Denver its first lead since the first quarter, and Trevon Brazile's key three-pointer helped seal the win. Jokić finished with 35 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists for the 199th regular-season triple-double of his career, 10 behind the just-retired Russell Westbrook's record of 209; Murray scored 42, and Brazile had 17 points, seven of them in overtime. For New Orleans, Trey Murphy III scored 26, Dejounte Murray 22, and Zion Williamson and Derik Queen 17 each, but the blown 23-point lead made for a bitter defeat.
