New York Steps Up Halloween Week DWI Patrols Statewide from October 25 to 31

New York State Police and local law enforcement began stepped-up patrols statewide on Sunday, October 25, running through Saturday, October 31 for Halloween week, according to an October 25 briefing. The enforcement, funded by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee, combines DWI patrols and sobriety checkpoints with attention to speeding and distracted driving.
The governor's office reported that during the same period last year, officers statewide issued 44,545 tickets, including 1,210 for DWI and 8,701 for speeding. This year's announcement did not disclose checkpoint locations in the North Country, and officials reminded drivers to plan ahead and choose a designated driver or other transportation during the holiday week.
