Alaska Senate candidate Peltola hurt in car crash; October 25 announcement postpones two campaign stops

On October 25, the campaign of Mary Peltola, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Alaska, announced that Peltola and her family were slightly injured in a car crash on the night of October 24, and that campaign events scheduled for October 25 and 26 in Fairbanks and Bethel would be postponed. According to the campaign, the crash happened on the evening of October 24 as the Peltola party was heading to the Alaska Federation of Natives annual banquet, when another vehicle struck theirs. Campaign manager Cheryl Bruce said the family sustained minor injuries, were in good spirits, and would rest on medical advice, with the Fairbanks and Bethel stops rescheduled to later in the week. The events open Peltola's 'Alaska Forever' swing, planned to reach eight locations statewide in the final week before the election. The rest of the schedule is unchanged, with the next stop set for Homer on October 27. Peltola, a former U.S. representative, is challenging Republican incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan, with fewer than ten days to the November 3 vote.
