On October 25, Minnesota Wild defenseman Quinn Hughes said, when asked about his contract outlook, that news may come soon. Hughes is in the final year of a six-year, $47.1 million contract and has been eligible to sign an extension since July 1, but there has been no movement so far. Speaking in Seattle, he said: 'I'm here, I'm excited right now, my feet are planted in Minnesota, you know, something may happen soon.' Hughes added that he enjoys playing in Minnesota, that the roster gives him a chance to succeed individually and as a team, that the first goal is making the playoffs, and that he believes the team can contend this year. Hughes, a former captain of the Vancouver Canucks, arrived in Minnesota in a blockbuster trade last season and is about to play his first game back in Vancouver since the deal, which has put the extension question in sharper focus. The team has announced no timetable for a new deal.
