Oregon fires offensive coordinator Mehringer on the morning of October 25 after 21-10 loss at Illinois

On the morning of October 25, University of Oregon head football coach Dan Lanning announced the dismissal of Drew Mehringer, in his first year as offensive coordinator. The decision followed Oregon's 21-10 road loss at Illinois on October 24, which dropped the Ducks to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the Big Ten. In a statement, Lanning said Mehringer had been an important member of the staff since 2022 and thanked him for his work, but that the offense needs a new direction. Mehringer, 38, joined Oregon in 2022 as tight ends coach, added co-offensive coordinator duties in 2025, and was promoted to offensive coordinator this year after Will Stein left to coach Kentucky. Against Illinois, Oregon gained 426 yards but scored only 10 points and was shut out in the second half. Star quarterback Dante Moore has missed three games with a concussion suffered against USC, and over the Ducks' recent three conference games the offense has averaged just 14 points a game. No successor has been announced.
