Penn State fencing closes Philadelphia invitational October 25 as Ossama takes men's epee gold

On October 25, the Penn State fencing team wrapped up its 2026 competition at the Coach Nikki Franke Invitational, hosted by Temple University in Philadelphia, with nine fencers across the men's and women's squads finishing in the top ten of their weapons. In the men's epee final, Ossama beat the University of Pennsylvania's Simon Lioznansky to win gold — Penn State's first title at the invitational since Mohamed Yassin in 2024. Ossama went 7-3 in pool play, including a 5-0 first pool, then advanced through the elimination bracket as a joint fourth seed. In men's foil, Zanardo went 8-2 in pools and finished second in his college debut; Changhee Han posted a perfect 9-0 across two pool rounds before bowing out in the table of 32 to place 17th; Iliff, Calendar and others also reached the top ten in their weapons. The Philadelphia invitational gave Penn State's fencing season a strong start.
