Washington early voting reaches 15% by October 25, ahead of the 2022 midterm pace

On October 25, data released by the Washington Secretary of State's office showed that 773,792 voters in the state had returned ballots, an early turnout rate of 15% — slightly ahead of the 2022 midterm pace, when about 669,000 ballots had been returned at the same nine-days-out point four years ago, putting this year about two percentage points higher. Of the ballots returned, 744,485 have been accepted, or 14.43% of all eligible voters; about 4,500 ballots, roughly 0.58% of returns, have been challenged, with missing or mismatched signatures still the main reason. By age, voters 65 and older lead at 30.3%, followed by ages 55-64 at 16.8%, while voters 18-24 account for just 4.4%. Most voters are hand-delivering their ballots: 68.1% went into official drop boxes and 30.83% were returned by mail. The Secretary of State's office reminded voters that online registration closes Monday, October 26, after which eligible residents must register in person at a local election office by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
