Mississippi State QB Taylor Returns From Injury Only to Exit Again; Coach Calls Start a Collective Decision

Postgame comments released on October 25 revealed that Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor, returning from injury in the October 24 game against Oklahoma, was hurt again shortly after coming back and left the game for good, as the Bulldogs lost 23-15. Taylor had missed the previous game against LSU with the injury. He returned to the starting lineup for Oklahoma but was replaced in the first quarter after the injury flared up and did not return.
Head coach Jeff Lebby said afterward that starting Taylor was a collective decision, agreed on by the team doctors, head athletic trainer Thomas Callans, Lebby himself and Taylor, noting that Taylor had felt better during the week and his practice form had improved. Lebby said that once Taylor felt discomfort in the injured area on the field, the staff believed taking him out was the right call. As for the next step in Taylor's recovery, Lebby said there would be further updates in the next day or two.
Taylor has been bothered by injuries all season, and leaving his first game back has added fresh uncertainty to the team's quarterback rotation. Mississippi State's next game is a Halloween-week road trip to face the University of Texas, and Taylor's availability will depend on evaluations over the next two days.
