Ohio Bull Rider Killed in Fall at Waynesville Rodeo: Fatal Chest Injuries Despite Protective Vest

Sunday, October 25, 2026 · States · GSM News

Jason Blake Saylor, a 35-year-old bull rider from Ohio, died on the evening of October 24 after falling from a bull during a rodeo at Fox Hollow Rodeo in Waynesville and then being stomped or kicked by the animal, suffering fatal chest injuries.

According to an October 25 report by the New York Post citing WXIX television, Saylor was wearing a protective chest vest but could not be saved. The rodeo organizer posted on social media: "We are heartbroken over losing a bull rider brother last night at Fox Hollow Rodeo. Words cannot express our sorrow, and our hearts are with his family, friends and everyone affected by this tragedy."

Bull riding is considered one of the most dangerous sports in America; earlier research has put the rate of fatal incidents at roughly one per 25,000 rides. Saylor's death has again drawn attention to safety in the sport: even wearing protective gear, a fallen rider faces the risk of being trampled by a bull weighing more than a thousand pounds. Organizers have not released further details, and the family and the rodeo community are mourning the rider.
