West Virginia Regulator Gives Garbage Hauler Republic Services 20 Days to Fix Service Failures

News published on October 25 said the West Virginia Public Service Commission, following a mediation hearing, has given garbage hauler Republic Services a 20-day grace period to resolve its ongoing service failures. The regulator is requiring the company to accept formal accountability during the period, and customers affected by the service problems may file formal complaints within the window. The case, No. 26-0827-MC-FC, had previously been under a 60-day monitoring period. During monitoring, missed pickups were reported in Logan, Charleston, Morgantown and Beckley, though only two formal complaints were filed. The commission said the 20 days are a final deadline for corrective action, after which it will decide on further steps based on the company's performance. The service failures were attributed to staffing and equipment shortages; the regulator emphasized that service-level agreements and the formal complaint process are effective oversight tools. Residents in affected areas who still experience missed pickups may file a formal complaint with the Public Service Commission so it can factor into further regulatory action.
