Premier League Sunday: Liverpool Beat Brighton 2-0 for First Home Win, Manchester United Lose 3-0 to Bournemouth and Drop to 16th

Liverpool beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday to record their first home win of the Premier League season, while Manchester United slumped to a 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth that heaped further pressure on manager Michael Carrick, according to Reuters. United captain Bruno Fernandes was benched after criticising Carrick's tactics in the midweek 4-1 Champions League defeat to Italian side Como, and he never came on.

Liverpool scored twice in a high-energy first half: in the 17th minute Brighton defender Pascal Groß steered a Florian Wirtz shot into his own net, and four minutes later Alexander Isak finished first time from Bradley Barcola's pass to make it 2-0. The win ended Brighton's run of four straight league wins and lifted Liverpool to fourth on 15 points, one behind Brighton. Manchester City remain top on 21 points despite dropping their first points of the season in Saturday's 2-1 reverse at Aston Villa, with Arsenal second on goal difference.

At Old Trafford, Rayan scored for Bournemouth in the 38th minute, Marcus Tavernier added a second before the break, and Evanilson's superb third made it 3-0, with the final whistle greeted by loud boos. The defeat leaves United 16th on seven points, one place above the relegation zone, and without a league win since beating Ipswich Town 5-2 on August 30.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Newcastle United won 2-0 away to Crystal Palace, while Hull City were held 1-1 at home by Brentford.
