Browns Edge Titans 27-24: Szmyt's 32-Yard Kick at the Gun Wins It as Pollard's Three Touchdowns Go to Waste
NASHVILLE — The Cleveland Browns beat the Tennessee Titans 27-24 at Nissan Stadium on Sunday afternoon in Week 7 of the NFL season: after the Titans tied the game with 58 seconds left, Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson drove the team into range and kicker Andre Szmyt hit a 32-yard field goal as time expired. Cleveland improved to 5-2, while Tennessee fell to 1-6.
Tennessee opened with a 14-0 lead on two first-quarter touchdown runs by Tony Pollard, from 36 and 10 yards. Cleveland answered with touchdown runs of 5 and 6 yards by Quinshon Judkins, and Szmyt's 28-yard field goal on the final play of the first half put the Browns ahead 17-14. After a scoreless third quarter, Joey Slye's 29-yard field goal tied it at 17, Watson's 9-yard touchdown run restored a 24-17 Browns lead, and Pollard's 1-yard touchdown run with 58 seconds remaining tied it at 24-24. Watson then drove Cleveland back downfield, with rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr.'s 36-yard catch and run setting up Szmyt's game-winning 32-yard kick.
Cleveland outgained Tennessee 491 yards to 322. Watson threw for 308 yards, and rookie KC Concepcion caught eight passes for 129 yards, all in the first half. Pollard ran 25 times for 129 yards and three touchdowns, while Titans quarterback Cam Ward finished 20-of-31 for 181 yards with one interception. According to The Tennessean, it was Watson's fifth game-winning scoring drive of the season; Tennessee fell to 2-20 at home since 2024 and has not won back-to-back games since 2022.
The Browns next visit the Pittsburgh Steelers in a first-place showdown in the AFC North, while the Titans travel to the Cincinnati Bengals on November 1.
