Follow-Up: AMBER Alert Cancelled as 6-Year-Old Joseph Garcia Is Located in Orange County
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) announced on its official account at 4:31 a.m. on Monday, October 26, that this AMBER Alert has been deactivated and the subject has been located. The Westminster Police Department, in Orange County, California, also confirmed on Monday that Joseph Garcia, the 6-year-old boy whose disappearance prompted the alert, has been located.
Joseph Garcia was last seen at about 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, near the intersection of W. Collins Ave. and N. Lemon St. in the city of Orange, Orange County, California. Police believed he had been taken by his grandfather, Frank Ramirez, 47, who was driving a blue 1995 GMC Sonoma pickup with California license plate 5B30127.
At the request of the Westminster Police Department, the CHP activated the AMBER Alert early on October 26, covering Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Diego counties, and pushed it to residents in the four counties as a wireless emergency alert.
Police have not released where or how the boy was located, or details of his condition. According to an earlier City News Service report on Monday, it was unclear whether the grandfather, Frank Ramirez, had also been located; the CHP deactivation post likewise made no mention of Ramirez. Further handling of the case awaits additional information from police.
