Three Phoenix-Area Freeway Closures Lift at 5 a.m. on October 26: Loop 202 and Other Segments Reopen

Monday, October 26, 2026 · City · GSM News

Three freeway closures in the Phoenix area that began at 10 p.m. on October 23 will be lifted at 5 a.m. on Monday, October 26, with the affected segments reopening before the Monday morning rush; drivers traveling on the morning of October 26 should be aware that conditions have changed. The first closure is the westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) exit ramp at Arizona Avenue, closed for bridge work; the detour uses the westbound exits at McQueen Road or Alma School Road. The second is the eastbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) segment between 75th Avenue and 51st Avenue, closed for a widening project; the detour follows eastbound Union Hills Drive and rejoins eastbound Loop 101 at 51st Avenue or 35th Avenue, and the eastbound Loop 101 entrance ramps at Bell Road and Union Hills Drive were also closed at the same time. The third is the eastbound Loop 303 segment between Interstate 17 and 43rd Avenue, closed for bridge construction; the detour goes north on 43rd Avenue and then east on Dove Valley Road to reach Interstate 17. All of these closures are part of a weekend construction plan, intended to complete bridge and widening work during the weekend's relatively light traffic and minimize the impact on weekday commutes. After the closures lift at 5 a.m. on October 26, the affected segments return to normal traffic, though temporary signs may remain near the work zones and drivers should slow down and follow the directions as they pass through.
