Chicago Rockford Airport Introduces Ticketless Parking from October 26

Monday, October 26, 2026 · City · GSM News

Chicago Rockford International Airport will introduce a ticketless parking system from October 26, becoming the first airport in Illinois to adopt a licence-plate-recognition parking platform. According to the Rockford Register Star, the new system is provided by Metropolis; after a one-time registration, travellers simply drive into the car park, park, and leave at the end of their trip, with no need to take a ticket or stop at a payment machine, as fees are settled automatically and receipts are sent electronically. The airport's executive director, Zach Oakley, said travellers choose Rockford airport because it is convenient, and parking should be the most convenient part of all; this is another step in the airport's improvement of the traveller experience from arriving at the airport to boarding. Metropolis's valet service has operated at the airport for more than three years and earlier this year also provided technical support for overflow parking, and its AeroParker reservation service now also allows booked travellers to enter without scanning a code. For elderly travellers and first-time visitors who do not often use electronic payments, the airport said the new system is intended to simplify the process rather than add hurdles, and travellers can learn about the registration method on the airport website before departure. Rockford airport mainly serves leisure and cargo routes for Chicago's northwestern suburbs and northern Illinois, and the improved parking experience is also seen as one of its competitive tools for attracting travellers.
