Federal Oversight of Caddo Parish Schools in Louisiana Ends After 61 Years, Attorney General Announced October 26

SHREVEPORT, La. — Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill announced on October 26 that federal oversight of the Caddo Parish School Board has ended, closing more than 61 years of federal desegregation litigation. The parties filed a joint stipulation of dismissal with prejudice, and the court filing found that the district has achieved unitary status; the case is dismissed in its entirety with no further action.

'After 61 years, federal oversight of the Caddo Parish School Board has ended. The people of Caddo Parish have their school system back,' Murrill said. 'It is long past time to return authority to where it belongs — with the people's elected representatives on the School Board, not with a federal judge.' She also thanked the Caddo Parish School Board and U.S. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon for their work.

Murrill has previously moved to end decades of federal oversight in other Louisiana districts, including Plaquemines Parish in April 2025, DeSoto Parish in January 2026, Concordia Parish in July 2026 and Bossier Parish in August 2026.
