PennDOT Seeks Public Comment Through November 13 on Plan to Widen Interstate 80 in the Poconos

Stroudsburg, Monroe County, Pennsylvania — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on a plan to widen Interstate 80 in the Pocono region, with the comment period running through November 13, 2026. The project, named the Interstate 80 Section 26M Reconstruction Project, was presented on October 20 at Northampton Community College's Monroe Campus. The plan would rebuild and widen about five miles of Interstate 80, across Hamilton, Pocono and Stroud townships, and also improve Interchange 302 with Route 33.
PennDOT says the project aims to address pavement deficiencies and structural inadequacies, relieve future congestion, improve traffic operations and enhance travel connectivity. The project is currently in the design phase, with construction planned to begin in 2030 and be completed by 2034, and the project cost has not yet been announced. The public can submit comments through PennDOT's project website; the virtual plans were posted online in early October, and PennDOT encourages residents along the corridor to ask questions about the plan and express their concerns.
