Chicago Polish Independence Run on October 25: 10K Starts at Montrose Harbor, 5K Held Alongside

On October 25, the Polish Independence 10K and 5K run/walk took place at Chicago's Montrose Harbor, starting at Grove 16, 601 West Montrose Avenue. The event was listed on the day's municipal events schedule by Chicago's Special Events Management, and runners and walkers could choose the 10K or 5K distance and finish along the harbor paths on the Lake Michigan shore. The Polish Independence Run is one of the traditional sporting events of Chicago's Polish community — Chicago has one of the largest Polish communities in the United States — and the autumn road race each year is both an athletic competition and a community gathering. The organizer reminded participants that several other events were taking place across Chicago on October 25, and those heading to the lakefront should plan transportation and parking ahead; with crowds and runners mixing on lakeside roads on Sunday morning, walking there was the steadier choice.
