On October 25, the Hawaii International Film Festival screened the film Take Me Home at the Consolidated Theatres Kahala in Honolulu at 2:15 p.m. Hawaii time, followed by a Q&A with the director. Written and directed by Liz Sargent, herself a Korean adoptee, the film tells the story of Anna, a Korean adoptee caring for her aging parents in suburban Florida: a devastating heat wave upends the family's fragile daily life, and Anna, her sister Emily and their father Bob must face an uncertain future together. Centered on disability, family and resilience, the film was selected for the U.S. competition section of the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, and Sargent received the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. The Hawaii International Film Festival is Hawaii's major Asia-Pacific film showcase; this year's edition runs from October 22 to November 1, and the October 25 screening was part of the Vilcek Foundation's "New American Perspectives" program, with the post-screening Q&A giving audiences a chance to talk directly with the director about adoption, identity and family caregiving.
