Miami Receiver Toney Named AP National Player of the Week Again; 16 Catches Set a School Record

Coral Gables, Miami-Dade County, Florida — The University of Miami announced on October 26 that sophomore wide receiver Malachi Toney has been named the Associated Press National Player of the Week for the second time. In last Saturday's game against the University of Pittsburgh, Toney caught 16 passes for 194 yards and 3 touchdowns, helping top-ranked Miami win 52–23. The 16 catches broke his own school record; the previous mark was 13, set against the same opponent last year. This is Toney's second such honor this season; the first came in the season's opening week against Stanford, when he caught 12 passes for 234 yards and also scored 3 touchdowns. So far this season, Toney has 66 catches for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns in 7 games, averaging 136 yards per game. He has topped 100 receiving yards in 5 of the 7 games, and Miami is currently 7–0 overall and 5–0 in conference play.
