Missouri PSC approves solar and storage project in Audrain County, to enter service in 2028

Near Vandalia, Audrain County, Missouri — The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved construction of a 175-megawatt solar project and a 200-megawatt battery storage project in Audrain County, it was reported on Oct. 26. The solar project, named the Tom Sawyer Solar Project, is being developed by EDF Renewables and is expected to enter service in 2028; the company says it can power the equivalent of more than 32,000 homes. The developer said Audrain County was chosen for reasons including rising local demand for locally generated solar, flat and cleared terrain, access to transmission facilities, and enough willing private landowners. The storage project, named the Huck Finn Battery Storage System Project, will be sited at Ameren Missouri's Audrain Energy Center near Vandalia. The commission also approved several storage, solar and substation projects in St. Louis, Lincoln and Stoddard counties. Under the agreement, Ameren Missouri will submit a service-restoration plan following major outages, publish quarterly progress reports, and notify the commission if total project costs change by more than 15%.
