Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina — North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein announced on Oct. 26 that US Conec will expand its operations in Hickory, investing more than $149.7 million to build a new production facility and adding 224 jobs. Headquartered in Hickory since 1992, the company designs, develops and manufactures high-density optical interconnect components used in advanced computing infrastructure, enterprise networks, telecommunications networks, circuit-board interconnects, and military and industrial applications. The new plant, about 200,000 square feet, will be used for advanced manufacturing, R&D, administrative offices and distribution. The governor said the expansion decision confirms the strength of North Carolina's manufacturing base, skilled workforce and stable business environment. The state said the manufacturing base and skilled workforce were important factors in attracting the investment; once completed, the project will further consolidate Hickory's position in optical-communications manufacturing and bring new jobs to local residents.
