Cheyenne, Laramie County, Wyoming — On Oct. 26, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management announced the start of a 30-day public comment period on its planned March 2027 Wyoming oil and gas lease sale, with comments due by Nov. 26. The sale plan covers 333 oil and gas parcels totaling about 426,000 acres; the BLM completed scoping of the parcels in September and is now seeking public comment on the parcels and the environmental analysis. The BLM manages about 245 million acres of public land; a lease sale is only the first step in federal oil and gas development, and operators must still submit drilling permit applications and undergo environmental review before developing, with all parcels in the sale carrying stipulations to protect important natural resources. The BLM said it will use public comments to refine its review of each parcel. Parcel maps and comment instructions are on the BLM's ePlanning website; after the comment period closes, the BLM will complete its review in light of the comments and then decide the lease sale arrangements.
